Senior Managing Director & Head of Operations
Gordon Brothers

Throughout her extensive career, Wendy Eng has learned that being open-minded about change in the workplace, and using such change as an opportunity to learn and grow, is critical. Having worked at many different types of companies and experienced various levels of transformation, both positive and negative, Eng has found the most impactful approach to change is taking advantage of any situation to learn new ways of approaching challenges.

“Ultimately, change has broadened my mindset to new approaches, giving me new tools to take on new responsibilities and make improvements in my work process,” Eng says.

Eng began her professional career in retail as an assistant buyer working for major department stores. Reebok then recruited her to help grow its outlet stores, though Eng soon moved to its sister company, Rockport, to run sales operations. She shifted gears after an eight-year stint in the footwear industry and began working for a business consulting firm. Eventually, that company went bankrupt, and Eng moved into valuation work at Great American, now B. Riley. She worked there for a few years before she found her “permanent home” at Gordon Brothers, where she has worked for 20 years.

width=She joined the firm as a project manager working on retail and wholesale appraisals. As she moved up in her career, she took on new roles, including practice group leader for consumer inventory appraisals, practice group leader for industrial inventory appraisals and, now, head of operations for valuations.

At this stage in Eng’s career, she hopes her legacy endures when she eventually decides to retire. Before she does, she wants to build a scalable operation that can continue to handle Gordon Brothers’ growth and develop and grow talent within the firm so she can find her successor.
