Santander Adds Two Industry Veterans to Corporate/Investment Team

Jim Volkwein and Eli Chamberlain joined Santander Bank‘s Corporate and Investment Banking unit in the U.S.

Volkwein was appointed head of banking and corporate finance and joined from Deutsche Bank. Chamberlain, who comes to Santander from Goldman Sachs, was named head of corporate sales.

“Jim and Eli bring nearly 50 years of industry experience to Santander,” said Marco Antonio Achón, head of Santander Corporate & Investment Banking US. “As proven leaders, Jim and Eli will be instrumental as we continue to grow and build the U.S. Corporate & Investment Banking business and partner with other Santander divisions across the globe to better serve our clients.”

In his new role, Volkwein will be responsible for maintaining relationships with existing U.S. clients and building relationships with prospective ones. He is a member of the Santander Corporate and Investment Banking U.S. Executive Committee. Volkwein spent 14 years at Deutsche Bank in a number of leadership roles, including head of industrials corporate banking, head of trade finance and cash management for corporates, co-head of corporate coverage for capital markets and treasury solutions, global COO of debt capital markets and global head of private placements. Volkwein spent three years at Barclays Capital as managing director and global head of private placements and 12 years at Merrill Lynch.

Chamberlain will be responsible for leading the bank’s foreign exchange and fixed income teams in the U.S. He has nearly 20 years of experience working with corporate derivatives. Chamberlain worked at Goldman Sachs for 12 years and was a managing director in the Corporate Risk Management group, leading their interest rate derivative coverage effort. Before Goldman Sachs, he spent eight years at JPMorgan Chase where he started his career as an analyst and worked his way up to vice president in corporate derivatives.
