Clukey Joins Sidley as Tax Controversy Partner

byABF Journal Staff

in News

Nathan Clukey joined Sidley Austin as a partner in its Tax Controversy practice in Washington, D.C. He was formerly a partner with King & Spalding.

Clukey focuses on complex domestic and international tax controversy issues, including transfer pricing tax litigation. He regularly assists clients in resolving tax disputes in examination and during administrative appeals with the IRS. He advises companies and individuals regarding government investigations connected with parallel civil and criminal proceedings before the IRS and U.S. Department of Justice.

Earlier in his career, Clukey was a trial lawyer in the DOJ’s Tax Division, where he served as lead counsel in jury and bench trials before federal district courts. He litigated several significant cases for the department, including multiple large tax shelter refund suits and nationwide civil injunction actions, and he was repeatedly recognized for his efforts.

“Nathan’s extensive experience with both administrative and judicial tax proceedings puts him in a strong position to provide important counsel to our clients, which is particularly valuable after last year’s major federal tax reform,” said Matt Lerner, leader of the Tax Controversy practice.
