Davis Polk added Oran Ebel as a partner in the investment management practice in New York. He joins the firm after more than 12 years with Blackstone Credit & Insurance.

“Oran is a sophisticated credit funds lawyer with significant experience working on the most complicated legal issues across both the regulated and private fund spaces,” Neil Barr, chair and managing partner of Davis Polk, said. “He is an excellent addition to our preeminent investment management practice, particularly as we continue to build out our credit fund capabilities and strengthen our firm’s position as a market leader in private credit. We are pleased to welcome him to Davis Polk.”

Prior to joining Davis Polk, Ebel was a managing director in the legal and compliance group of Blackstone and deputy general counsel of Blackstone Credit. He also served as chief legal officer and secretary of Blackstone Private Credit Fund (BCRED) and Blackstone Secured Lending Fund (BXSL), Blackstone’s credit BDCs. In these roles, his responsibilities related to new business initiatives, fund structuring and related issues, investment transactions, regulatory matters and other legal and compliance matters. Ebel joined Blackstone Credit & Insurance (formerly GSO Capital Partners) in 2013. Prior to joining Blackstone, Ebel was a finance associate at a global law firm.

“We are thrilled to welcome Oran to the team,” Leor Landa, head of Davis Polk’s investment management practice, said. “Oran not only has a rare practice that combines deep experience in private credit, regulated funds and private funds, he has a sophisticated understanding of the various complexities involved in operating a retail business alongside private funds, and he brings years of underlying credit transactional experience as well. We have experienced exciting growth in our funds practice, and Oran will further bolster our elite platform.”

“I am excited to join Davis Polk’s exceptional funds team,” Ebel said. “I am energized by the firm’s growth and investment in the private credit market, and I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to provide innovative solutions to our growing roster of investment management clients.”

Ebel received his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2008 and his A.B. from Princeton University in 2002.
