Winston & Strawn appointed intellectual property partner Krishnan Padmanabhan (KP) to New York office managing partner. He succeeds partner Mats Carlston, who has served in the role since 2021 and remains co-chair of the firm’s finance practice group.
Padmanabhan is a co-chair of Winston’s technology, media and telecom industry group, served as a member of the executive committee and is part of the firm’s artificial intelligence strategy group. His practice focuses on high-stakes intellectual property disputes, with an emphasis on patent litigation in the nation’s leading patent jurisdictions. Padmanabhan’s knowledge extends across an array of technologies, including telecommunications, networking, semiconductors and medical devices.
“I am honored to have been selected to assume the leadership role of Winston’s New York office and excited to continue the great work Mats has done,” Padmanabhan said. “The New York office has grown to be home to over 200 world-class litigation and transactions attorneys who represent more than 80 Fortune 500 companies, and I look forward to leading the office to continued success and growth.”
Prior to practicing law, Padmanabhan worked as an engineer focused on commercial and next-generation semiconductor technology for a major aerospace corporation. He uses this background to develop an in-depth understanding of clients’ businesses and provide creative solutions to client needs. He received his J.D. from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, and his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan.
“KP has been a key contributor to our New York office for nearly 15 years and has been integral as a co-chair of our technology, media and telecom industry group,” Steve D’Amore, chairman of Winston & Strawn, said. “As a member of our executive committee, KP has gained invaluable insights into strategic oversight and leadership. That experience plus his commitment to our culture of urgent collaboration and passionate client service will drive growth and innovation as he leads our New York office, strengthening our presence in this key market.”
