Truist Financial named Alex Bartlett regional president for Greater Washington and Maryland. A longtime Truist leader and Baltimore native, Bartlett brings extensive commercial banking experience and deep knowledge of the region to the role.

Bartlett succeeds T.J. Hughes, who was recently named Truist’s head of enterprise payments sales. In that role, Hughes leads the enterprise payments sales organization across Truist’s key business segments.

“Greater Washington and Maryland is an important region for Truist, with strong clients, talented teammates and significant opportunity ahead,” Kerry Jessani, head of commercial and corporate banking at Truist, said. “We’re grateful to T.J. for his leadership and the strong foundation he helped build, and we look forward to continuing that momentum under Alex Bartlett’s leadership.”

Jodie Hughes, Truist’s head of commercial banking, added, “Alex has a proven track record of building strong teams, deepening client relationships and driving growth across Greater Washington and Maryland. His deep knowledge of this market, collaborative leadership style and commitment to our clients and communities make him the right leader to build on the strong momentum we have across the region.”

Most recently, Bartlett served as Truist’s middle market leader for Greater Washington, Northern Virginia and Maryland, directing the middle market line of business and helping deliver Truist’s range of capabilities to clients across the region. He joined Truist in 2011 and has held leadership roles focused on expanding the bank’s presence across Baltimore, Washington and Maryland.

In his new role, Bartlett will lead Truist’s regional commercial banking strategy across Greater Washington and Maryland, with a focus on strengthening client relationships, accelerating growth and supporting teammates and communities across the market.

“Having been born and raised in Baltimore, this region is more than a market to me. It is home,” Bartlett said. “I am honored to take on this role and continue the progress our teammates have made across the region. We have tremendous opportunity across Greater Washington and Maryland, and I look forward to working alongside our teams to deepen relationships, help our clients achieve their goals and make a positive impact in the communities we serve.”

Before joining Truist, Bartlett held roles with M&T Bank, Merrill Lynch and Wachovia. His experience spans commercial, government contracting, middle market and not-for-profit banking.

Bartlett has longstanding ties to the Baltimore community. He currently serves on the board of The First Tee of Greater Baltimore and previously served on the boards of the Kennedy Krieger Institute Foundation and Port Discovery Children’s Museum. He earned his MBA from Loyola University Maryland.
