Durable Goods Orders Remain Relatively Unchanged in August

New orders for manufactured durable goods in July increased $9.7 billion or 4.4% to $228.9 billion, following two consecutive monthly decreases, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
After two consecutive months of growth, new orders for manufactured durable goods decreased $4.8 million or 2% to $236.3 billion in August, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods in March increased $0.3 billion or 0.1% to $412.9 billion, the highest level since the series was first published.
The U.S. Census Bureau reported inventories of manufactured durable goods increased $2.0 billion, or 0.5%, to $410.8 billion in December, the highest level since the series was first published.
The Census Bureau said new orders for manufactured durable goods in November decreased $1.7 billion or 0.7% to $242.3 billion. Unfilled orders, however, increased to its highest level since the NAICS was first published in 1992.
Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in August, up sixteen of the last seventeen months, increased 0.6% to $1,165.0 billion, the highest level since the series was first published in 1992, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The U.S. Census Bureau said new orders for manufactured durable goods in June increased $9.9 billion or 4.2%. Transportation equipment, up four of the last five months, led the increase.
In its latest report on manufacturers’ shipments, inventories and orders, the U.S. Census Bureau said new orders for durable goods in March decreased 5.7%. This decrease followed a 4.3% February increase.
