Simpson Thacher Promotes 15 Attorneys to Partner

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has elevated 15 attorneys to partner, effective January 1, 2020.

The new partners are:

Sunny Cheong (New York) – a member of the firm’s Capital Markets Practice. She represents both issuers and underwriters on a wide range of securities transactions, including IPOs and other equity offerings, as well as high yield, investment grade and convertible debt offerings

Crystal L. Frierson (Washington, D.C.) – advises sponsors on the organization, structuring and operation of private investment funds across a range of asset classes. She also advises sponsors on separately managed accounts, co-investments and corporate transactions.

Yi Gao (Hong Kong) – advises clients on capital markets transactions, including SEC-registered offerings, Rule 144A/Regulation S offerings and listings in New York and Hong Kong for China-based companies. He also advises companies on pre-IPO and post-IPO financings and investments, and general corporate and regulatory matters.

Adam Goldberg (Hong Kong) – represents clients in government and internal investigations, securities and other complex commercial litigation and international arbitration. He also provides regulatory counseling on a wide range of issues, including anti-corruption, sanctions, export controls, anti-money laundering and data privacy.

Robert Guo (Palo Alto, CA) – a member of the Private Funds Practice. He counsels fund sponsors on the establishment and operation of private investment funds across multiple asset classes. He also advises fund sponsors on governance and regulatory compliance matters. In addition, he has represented numerous private equity and venture capital investors on financing and other transactions.

James M. Hays (Houston) –leads the firm’s Private Funds Practice in Houston and focuses on the organization and administration of private investment funds across a diverse range of asset classes and strategies. He also advises clients on regulatory and compliance matters, as well as the set-up and operation of alternative investment funds in Luxembourg.

Jonathan Hwang (Hong Kong) –is a member of the Real Estate Practice. He counsels leading private equity firms on acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and other real estate-related transactions in the Asia-Pacific region.

Eli Isak (New York) –is a member of the Banking and Credit Practice. He advises leading private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies on a broad range of finance transactions, including acquisition financings, bank and bridge loan financings, refinancings and recapitalizations. He also advises strategic clients on a wide variety of corporate finance transactions.

Julia Kohen (New York) –represents financial sponsors in connection with financings for private equity, real estate, infrastructure, debt and other investment funds. She also advises clients on complicated fund-level financings designed to facilitate and support investment activities, as well as management lines and employee and co-investment loan programs.

Daniel Lloyd (London) –a member of the Private Funds Practice. He advises various sponsors of private investment funds across numerous strategies and asset classes on matters related to fundraisings, co-investments, managed accounts, structured secondary transactions and ongoing advisory matters.

Matthew B. Rogers (New York) – concentrates his practice on merger and acquisition transactions. He regularly represents strategic clients and private equity firms on a broad range of mergers, acquisitions, minority investments, joint ventures and dispositions across a wide variety of industries.

Brandan Still (Houston) –is a member of the Banking and Credit Practice, representing lenders and borrowers in a wide range of banking and credit transactions. He also advises hedge providers and counterparties on commodity hedging transactions.

Malcolm J. (Mick) Tuesley (Washington, D.C.) – represents clients in connection with national security reviews before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS) and related issues, including mitigation of foreign ownership, control or influence (FOCI) and export control compliance.

Peter P. Vassilev (New York) – focuses his practice on the organization, structuring and operation of private investment funds. He represents sponsors and funds focused on a wide array of asset classes, including real estate, debt and credit, buyout, growth, technology, venture and hedge funds. He also advises sponsors on separately managed accounts, co-investments and on a range of corporate transactions and strategic initiatives.

Benjamin Wells (New York) –advises registered investment vehicles and investment advisers, including closed-end funds, interval funds, business development companies and REITs. He counsels clients on transactional and regulatory matters, including structuring and formation, securities offerings, regulatory relief applications and ongoing governance and compliance.
