SierraConstellation Hires Turnaround Pro as Managing Director

SierraConstellation Partners, a national interim management and advisory firm to middle-market companies in transition, has hired Basil Karampelas as a managing director based in the firm’s Houston office.

“We are thrilled to have a professional of Basil’s caliber joining our Houston office. His broad diversity of industrial and business experience, when added to the existing Houston team and paired with our recent Fiduciary Services offering, makes SierraConstellation Partners a formidable provider in the Southwest Region to clients who find themselves in operational or financial peril,” said Drew McManigle, senior managing director and head of the Southwest Region at SCP.

Karampelas has nearly three decades of strategic, financial and operational experience, as well as extensive leadership experience as a middle-market CEO and CFO. Before joining SCP, Karampelas was a managing director for a national advisory firm, leading the firm’s restructuring practice for the natural resource, chemical and renewable industries. Karampelas spent two years with the firm, where he worked with a $35 billion private equity fund, a Fortune 150 refining company and a multibillion-dollar healthcare provider.

Karampelas has also served as the president and head of origination for American Process, a company specializing in the development of technologies for the commercial production of sugars from biomass. Prior to American Process, Karampelas was an operating partner at Plainfeld Asset Management where he served in interim C-suite positions at the firm’s portfolio companies, including solar panel, biodiesel and E&P concerns. Earlier in his career, Karampelas served as a managing director at BP Energy Financial Services, where he co-founded and led BP’s U.S. merchant banking operation.

In addition to his professional experience, Karampelas also serves as a guest lecturer at the Fordham University Gabelli School of Business in New York.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Drew and the entire SCP team,” said Karampelas. “I’m proud of my track record of C-level financial and operational experience across industries, but being in Houston is particularly exciting for me because of my deep background working with energy, oilfield services, and E&P companies. I’m eager to get started and help SCP continue to grow in Houston and across the country. Since I first moved to Houston in 1997, I consider it my second home.”

Karampelas joins SCP as the firm continues to grow its presence in the Southwest region. In the past 12 months, SCP’s Houston office has more than doubled in size, and is continuing to look for additional qualified candidates.
