Semiconductor and Solar Cell Manufacturing Equipment Up for Sale in New York

ENDICOTT, N.Y. — Tiger Group and GESemi are accepting offers for manufacturing equipment used in the production of high-efficiency gallium arsenide (GaAs) thin-film photovoltaic (PV) cells and semiconductors. The sale includes nearly 600 crates of decommissioned tools from Endicott-based Ubiquity Solar, now stored in South-Central New York.

The equipment, originally used by Alta Devices before its acquisition by Ubiquity Solar in 2021, was designed for producing lightweight, high-efficiency solar cells with applications in aerospace, vehicles, and drones. Some production tools are also suitable for fabricating gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor devices.

“This equipment can be used to manufacture products for weight-sensitive applications such as drones and satellites,” said Kevin Shows, chief operating officer at GESemi. “It’s also an excellent fit for the space industry.”

The sale also includes nearly 200 patents and intellectual property assets related to gallium arsenide wafer manufacturing. According to Chad Farrell, managing director at Tiger Commercial & Industrial, the available technology offers significant efficiency advantages over traditional space-grade silicon PV cells.

Among the equipment for sale are Aixtron MOCVD systems, AVP Technologies inline sputtering tools, scanning electron microscopes, plating lines, and environmental test chambers. The inventory comprises tools capable of producing up to 150 kWp (AM0) of thin-film GaAs PV cells annually, with additional assets available for expansion to 1.5 MWp per year. However, utility support equipment, buildings, and necessary permits are not included.

All equipment was fully operational before decommissioning in 2021. Interested buyers can view asset photos, descriptions, and additional details at soldtiger.com and gesemi.com.
