Holland & Knight has strengthened its financial services team with the addition of Dimitri Nionakis as a partner in Boston. Nionakis was most recently executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief legal officer of a Massachusetts-based federal savings institution for over a decade. Previously, he practiced in Washington, D.C. in global law firms and the federal government.

Throughout his career, Nionakis has advised leading global companies, emerging startup companies, domestic and foreign executives and senior public officials, and boards of directors in high-profile matters. He has deep experience in banking law, regulation, transactions and compliance, as well as board and corporate governance, government/internal investigations, litigation, corporate communications, investor relations and crisis management. He has represented clients before the U.S. Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Reserve, FDIC, OCC, State Attorneys General, Special Counsel, Congress, as well as state and federal courts.

Earlier in his career, he served as associate White House Counsel to former President Bill Clinton, where he served as impeachment counsel, as well as represented the President, the White House and senior officials in connection with investigative and executive privilege matters.

“We are excited to welcome Dimitri to the firm. With his broad experience in both the public and private sectors, Dimitri is well-equipped to assist clients with a wide range of matters, including regulatory issues, corporate governance, government and internal investigations and crisis management,” Matthew Fontane, co-chair of the firm’s national financial services team, said. “The deep and broad experience Dimitri gained during his 13 years as chief legal officer for an innovative, federally-regulated bank provide him with valuable insight into the unique challenges facing financial services institutions.”

“I’m thrilled to join Holland & Knight’s esteemed financial services team. With my background in regulatory matters, transactions, corporate governance and government inquiries, I’m looking forward to working with the team to help clients navigate unprecedented changes and advances in the industry,” Nionakis said. “I am eager to contribute to the firm’s continued success and to support our clients in solving their issues and achieving their goals with high-level strategic guidance.”

Nionakis received a J.D. degree from Case Western University School of Law and an A.B. degree from Middlebury College.
