Fitch Learning’s CQF Institute released its 2025 Careers Guide to Quantitative Finance. The guide provides insights for professionals and organizations in the field, including market analysis, expert interviews and the latest salary benchmarks globally. It is designed to equip hiring managers and candidates with contextual career and hiring information related to the rapidly changing world of quant finance.

A major focus in this year’s report is on AI and machine learning, with 88% of surveyed professionals recognizing these as key change drivers in the next five years. Featuring insights from leading professionals and academics, including Aaron Brown, professor Carol Alexander and professor Wim Schoutens, the report also explores shifting role dynamics and skillsets needed as quant professionals increasingly work alongside data scientists and AI experts.

“The rapid pace of AI and technological advancements means stepping out of the market carries a significant opportunity cost,” Dr. Randeep Gug, managing director of the CQF Institute, said. “To not only survive but thrive in these increasingly in-demand fields, continuing education is crucial. Engaging in professional development courses like the CQF, which allow you to work full-time while learning, is essential for future-proofing your career and staying ahead of industry changes.”

The guide delves into:

  • Global salary information for key positions like quant researcher, portfolio manager, and senior vice president/director, offering data for candidates seeking roles and aiding talent acquisition professionals in career planning and promoting hiring transparency
  • The growing demand for professionals such as machine learning researchers and quant developers
  • Emerging roles like head of AI, showcasing the industry’s dedication to technological progress.
  • Strategic insights on market trends, including decentralized finance, advancements in hardware and renewed focus on fundamental risk management
  • The importance of effective communication and strong business skills that recruiters look for, enabling candidates to convey complex ideas to both human audiences and AI systems

“The CQF program sets the benchmark for professional development, equipping participants with advanced skills in quant finance and machine learning and is complemented by lifelong learning resources and career services,” Dr. Gug said. “Our annual Careers Guide is an essential resource for anyone looking to advance their career, stay ahead of industry trends, and gain insights from leading experts in the field.”
