Global law firm Clifford Chance appointed Matthew Jones as a partner in its debt finance practice in Houston, strengthening its leveraged and infrastructure finance offering in the U.S. and globally as the firm continues to grow its presence and capabilities in Houston.

Jones counsels public and private borrowers, private equity sponsors and lenders in complex financing transactions, with emphasis on transactions involving energy, infrastructure and other capital-intensive industries. He advises clients on the financing aspects of domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions and other business combinations.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Matt to our team,” Emma Matebalavu, global lead, debt finance at Clifford Chance, said. “He brings a highly complementary combination of energy sector knowledge and financing experience that will be an asset to our clients. His background advising on complex capital structures further strengthens our offering in Houston and enhances our ability to support clients pursuing opportunities across a rapidly evolving sector in the U.S. and globally.”

Alex Wilde, Houston office managing partner at Clifford Chance, added, “We’re incredibly proud of the team we’re building in Houston and the breadth of support we offer clients across complex and strategic matters. Matt’s arrival reflects our continued investment in the market and builds on the strong capabilities we’ve developed across the office and the firm’s global platform.”

Jones said, “The strength of Clifford Chance’s global platform and its growing presence in Houston make this an exciting opportunity. The combination of deep sector knowledge and global collaboration creates tremendous advantage for clients.”
