BankUnited named Tony Coley as senior vice president, commercial banking market leader for the Tampa Bay region. The 30-year banking industry veteran will lead the bank’s Tampa Bay commercial teams as they continue to grow BankUnited’s portfolio and extend its momentum in the region.
“Tony is an exceptional professional and a seasoned leader with an established record of building effective teams that deliver results and exceed client expectations,” Chad Loar, executive vice president, commercial banking division at BankUnited, said. “He is well-suited to drive BankUnited’s growth in Tampa Bay while helping our clients achieve their financial goals.”
Coley’s commercial banking experience includes leading banking franchises across Florida and the Southeast. Prior to joining BankUnited, he was executive vice president and regional president for South Florida with Seacoast Bank. He also served as group regional president at Truist Bank, overseeing 10 of its 21 community-banking regions, in six states, and regional president leading the BB&T/SunTrust merger integration in South Florida.
Coley also has a decades-long track record of community involvement, which has earned him numerous accolades, including recognition among Florida Trend’s “500 Most Influential Leaders” and South Florida Business Journal’s “250 Power Leaders in Banking & Finance.”
He graduated from the University of Miami as an Academic All American and three-year starter for the Miami Hurricanes football team, winning three conference championships. Coley later attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, The Wharton School and University of Pennsylvania.
