Global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) continues to grow and expand its global disputes and investigations services with the appointment of José Cortina as managing director in Mexico City.
Cortina specializes in internal investigations, disputes, litigation support and intelligence gathering in Mexico and Central America, as well as complex compliance and regulatory matters for corporates and law firms. He brings more than 20 years of investigative experience to his role and will build a team of regional, on-the-ground experts to meet the needs of A&M’s Mexican clients more effectively.
Over the course of his career, Cortina has carried out risk prevention, mitigation and corruption controls assessments for many Fortune 500 companies. He has also conducted numerous investigations into allegations of wrongdoing, including fraud, embezzlement, corruption and money laundering.
Prior to joining A&M, Cortina spent four years with FTI Consulting as head of its disputes and investigations practice in Mexico. Before that, he served as lead forensic partner with Deloitte Mexico and Central America and manager of the antifraud and extortions team at OCRA. He is a certified auditor, a member of the Mexican Bar Association, and a founder of Fundación SEK, a charitable organization in Mexico.
“Mr. Cortina’s hire reflects A&M’s commitment to meeting the needs of clients globally,” Jerry Dent, global disputes and investigations co-leader at A&M, said. “Investigations are increasingly global in nature, and Mr. Cortina brings significant experience assisting organizations with navigating complex matters in Mexico and across broader Latin America.”
Sergio Meneses, managing director of Northern Latin America, added, “We’re delighted to have Mr. Cortina on board. He brings a depth of experience and expertise to our Mexico operations that will assure their success in the future.”
