Star Mountain Capital, a growing, employee-owned investment firm, expanded its portfolio optimization team with the addition of George Zahringer as strategic portfolio partner. Zahringer brings over 20 years of operational private equity and private credit investing experience across industry sectors and business cycles as well as advisory and board experience and will work closely with the firm’s investment teams to support value creation initiatives across the portfolio.
Zahringer focuses extensively on value creation strategies, including the development and execution of first 100-day, 300-day and 1,000-day operating plans. His work has included establishing operating cadences, developing actionable reporting and key performance indicators, supporting business development and commercial growth initiatives, enhancing management teams, upgrading processes and systems and improving operations to support successful exits and investor returns.
“We believe that driving strong outcomes in the lower middle-market requires both disciplined investing and a hands-on operational approach,” Brett Hickey, founder and CEO of Star Mountain Capital, said. “George brings over two decades of operational private equity investing experience that will further strengthen our ability to partner with management teams and drive long-term value for our investors.”
Zahringer added, “I was drawn to Star Mountain’s differentiated approach within the lower middle-market, entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to combining disciplined underwriting with active portfolio engagement. Throughout my career, I have focused on helping businesses improve operations, strengthen teams and build scalable platforms. I look forward to working alongside the Star Mountain team to support value creation and portfolio optimization and contribute to the continued growth of the firm’s investment platform.”
Prior to joining Star Mountain, Zahringer was co-founder and principal of AZ Private Ventures, a lower middle-market control private equity firm. The firm focused on applying operational value creation strategies to transform businesses and build scalable platforms.
Earlier in his career, he was a principal at NexPhase Capital, a middle-market private equity spin out of Moelis, where he contributed to investment sourcing, execution and operational initiatives across the firm’s portfolio companies.
