Clifford Chance Represents Exxon Mobil in Acquisition of Assets from Superior Graphite

Global law firm Clifford Chance has represented Exxon Mobil Oil Company, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, in its agreement to acquire certain production facilities and related assets and technology from Superior Graphite, an Illinois-based graphite manufacturer. The transaction is intended to support Exxon Mobil’s strategy to develop and supply synthetic graphite.

The Clifford Chance team was led by partners Chang-Do Gong (M&A, New York) and Jonathan Castelan (energy and infrastructure, Houston), along with associates Marina Livingston, Bridget Costello, Michelle Green and Alana McAndrews (New York). They were supported by a multi-practice team consisting of:

  • Environmental regulations: Partner Ty’Meka Reeves-Sobers (Houston), associate Kami McFarland (Washington, D.C.)
  • Real estate: Staff attorney Daniel Copland (New York)
  • Tax: Partner Philip Wagman, associate Joshua Thomas (New York)
  • ERISA: Partner Paul Koppel, associate David Walsh (ERISA, New York)
  • IP: Partner Violetta Kokolus, counsel Daryl Fairbairn (New York), lawyer Molly Margiotta (London)
