King & Spalding hired John Ryan as a partner in its finance and restructuring practice group. Ryan is based in the firm’s New York office.

Ryan, who joined the firm from Capital One, has experience spanning leveraged finance, capital markets, project finance, derivatives, broker-dealer regulation and restructuring. His experience in leveraged finance includes expertise in loan financings and securities financings, such as high-yield bonds, mezzanine and equity/quasi-equity financing.

“John is a broad-gauged lawyer whose diverse finance and capital markets experience will bring additional value to our finance and corporate clients and build on our capabilities in high-yield bonds and preferred equity investments,” Carolyn Alford, co-leader of the firm’s finance and restructuring practice group, said. “Many of us have known and worked with John for years, and we are looking forward to his contributions to the growth of our finance practice in the New York market and beyond.”

At Capital One, Ryan served as a managing director and the head of the capital markets legal group. Prior to Capital One, he served as a senior vice president and senior counsel at GE Capital and as an associate at Milbank and Cahill Gordon.

“King & Spalding’s investment in growing its finance-related legal services in New York makes this a particularly exciting time to join the firm,” Ryan said. “I have worked with a number of King & Spalding lawyers over the years, and I am thrilled to now roll up my sleeves and collaborate with them to grow the firm’s finance practice.”
