Womble Bond Dickinson Adds International Tax Partner in Houston

byBrianna Wilson

in People

Womble Bond Dickinson hired Phyllis A. Guillory within the firm’s Houston office as a partner in the corporate and securities group, where her practice will focus on complex tax issues and cross-border transactions. Her extensive experience advising public and private business entities, trusts and individuals in many industries – particularly those in the energy and natural resource sector – spans over 50 countries.

In addition to counseling clients on launching international businesses, Guillory advises on local and overseas tax implications, personnel issues, choice of business entity and reorganization of business structures to minimize tax liability. She also helps domestic and international businesses and investors navigate the nuances of the U.S. tax system, including pre-immigration tax planning strategies to minimize future income, estate and gift tax obligations.

Guillory joins Womble from a tax-focused law firm, where she’d practiced for nearly three decades. Prior to that, she was a senior accountant in the international department of a big four accounting firm. She received her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and B.S. in accounting from Louisiana State University.

“Phyllis brings an impressive international tax practice and multi-jurisdictional experience that will be of significant value for many of our global practices,” Jeff Whittle, head of the global energy and natural resources sector and Houston office managing partner, said. “Her collegiality and collaborative approach to client service make her an excellent fit for the firm, and we are delighted to welcome her to the Houston office.”

Other recent additions to the firm’s international depth in the Energy and Natural Resources sector include Denver office managing partner Scot Anderson, environmental team leader Ana Maria Gutiérrez (Denver), former AngloGold Ashanti executive Wayne Chancellor (Denver), and senior transactional attorney David Beckstead (Boston).
