William Blair, a global boutique with expertise in investment banking, investment management and private wealth management, expanded its equity capital markets investment banking team with the addition of veteran investment banker Ilya Blanter. He joins as a managing director and head of equity-linked capital markets in New York, where he will lead convertible debt origination, structuring and execution.

“Ilya will lead the expansion of our equity-linked financing capabilities and ensure we are optimally positioned to provide a comprehensive suite of financing alternatives to our public company clients,” Steve Maletzky, head of capital markets at William Blair, said. “He is an extremely experienced and technically sound capital markets advisor with deep corporate and institutional investor relationships. Ilya is a trusted advisor for growth-oriented companies looking for holistic capital-raising solutions — and we are thrilled to welcome him to the team.”

Blanter spent the past 15 years at Barclays, most recently as a managing director focused on complex equity-linked origination processes and advisory services, including convertible bonds, equity financing, equity derivatives and structured share repurchase transactions. He received his B.A. from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs and is a CFA charterholder.

“William Blair’s equity capital markets team has a strong reputation for providing clients with a high caliber of service and holistic capital-raising solutions,” Blanter said. “I’m excited to work with the team and the firm’s entire investment banking group to help grow William Blair’s equity-linked capital markets business.”
