Alvarez & Marsal Tax (A&M Tax), an affiliate of global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), appointed Sean Trahan as managing director within its transfer pricing line of service. Following the hiring of managing directors Dan Peters and Matt DeFelice along with senior economists Barry Freeman and Clark Chandler, Trahan’s joining continues the build out of A&M’s global transfer pricing team.

Trahan’s primary areas of concentrations include intellectual property planning and value chain optimization, as well as complex controversy management for large multinationals. He also leads large-scale value chain restructurings across several geographies and sectors, involving multidisciplinary teams focused on operating model design, transfer pricing, direct and indirect taxes, customs and systems implementation.

“A&M Tax prides itself on global capabilities and global delivery,” Ernesto “Ernie” Perez, global practice leader of A&M Tax, said, “Sean’s joining furthers our very deliberate plans to continue to add talent and leaders that enable us to meet our clients’ most pressing objectives. From business operations and risk management to more complex supply chain design, sophisticated jurisdictional considerations or IP planning for multi-nationals, we are focused on savings and impact. Our transfer pricing team coupled with our international tax services professionals make for a formidable partnership to serve the market. We are very pleased to welcome Sean to the firm.”

Trahan is recognized for his cross-border transfer pricing expertise, experience establishing transfer pricing practices and ability to help clients navigate jurisdiction complexities. He works across a range of industries, including consumer products, technology, media and entertainment, healthcare and industrial manufacturing.

Trahan has negotiated advanced pricing agreements and mutual agreement procedure cases with tax authorities across the Americas, Asia, Europe and Africa and has in-depth working knowledge of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development environment.

“Sean’s experience building and scaling transfer pricing practices enhances our ability to help clients navigate the transfer pricing aspects of effective planning, efficient compliance and managing tax authority relations,” Albert Liguori, managing director of tax and leader of the firm’s corporate transformation tax group, said. “His in-depth technical tax knowledge across multiple sectors will enable clients to realize current business goals while laying the groundwork to achieve long-term goals.”

Prior to joining A&M, Trahan spent 22 years at EY, where he most recently served as a partner in the firm’s transfer pricing and supply chain practice in New York. Before his New York role, he was based in London, where he led EY’s U.S. transfer pricing and supply chain desk for EMEIA. In addition to his leadership roles in New York and London, he founded and led EY’s Carolinas transfer pricing and supply chain practice in Charlotte, NC.

“A&M’s integrated platform and legacy of operational excellence provides the perfect springboard to help clients solve complex transfer pricing problems,” Trahan said. “The firm’s collaborative culture and results-oriented mindset ensures that clients understand how much we care while simultaneously focusing on driving results.”
