Sidley Austin Adds Califano to Global Restructuring Group

Tom Califano joined Sidley Austin’s global restructuring group as a partner in the firm’s New York office. He joined from DLA Piper, where he was the global co-chair and U.S. chair of the firm’s restructuring group.

Califano represents private and public companies both in and out of court, buyers of distressed companies and ad-hoc creditor constituencies, with a particular focus on company and buyer-side representations. During his more than 30 years in practice, he has gained experience working within multiple industries, including healthcare, energy and financial services restructurings.

“Tom’s reputation in the U.S. restructuring market is second to none,” Jennifer Hagle, a member of Sidley Austin’s executive committee and restructuring group, said. “Our global team of over 50 restructuring lawyers welcomes him to the group and knows that he will have an immediate impact helping our clients navigate some of the most complicated business challenges.”

‘’Sidley’s culture and practice breadth is a perfect fit professionally, as it unlocks a wide-range of growth opportunities,” Califano said. “I’ve worked with several lawyers at Sidley during my career, and I’m looking forward to partnering with them and others across the firm to help advance the already strong global restructuring practice.”

“Tom is a trusted and well-respected advocate for his clients,” Larry Barden, chair of Sidley Austin’s management committee, said. “His extensive experience in advising companies facing difficulties, as well as buyers of distressed assets, will add strength to our restructuring group.”
