King & Spalding recruited restructuring lawyer Patrick Schumann as a partner in the firm’s corporate, finance and investments (CFI) practice group in London.

Schumann advises clients on complex cross-border restructurings, formal insolvencies and distressed debt situations. He has acted on high-profile restructurings in a variety of sectors including energy, construction and commodities. He also has experience with banking and structured finance transactions, including collateral debt obligations, derivatives and leveraged financings. His clients include investment funds, banks, insolvency practitioners, agents and borrowers.

“Patrick is one of the rising stars in the restructuring world and is highly regarded by clients, so he is a prime candidate to help us build-out our restructuring and insolvency practice in Europe, especially in the current economic climate,” Todd Holleman, head of the CFI practice group at King & Spalding, said. “Patrick shares many common clients with the firm which, when combined with his in-house experience and his team-player ethos, ensures he will be a key contributor to our practice’s growth from day one.”

Schumann joins the firm from Reed Smith in London. He previously worked in-house at private debt fund Park Square Capital and before that at White & Case.

“Patrick is a sharp, well-trained and ambitious lawyer who will be a strong addition to our London office,” Tom Sprange KC, managing partner of London office for King & Spalding, said. “We are excited to have him join us as the latest in our string of new colleagues here in London.”

“King & Spalding has been growing its CFI team in Europe across various areas, including private credit, private equity and funds, so it will be great to slot straight into that team and add the restructuring component to the package,” Schumann said. “I have also previously worked closely with some of my new colleagues, so I look forward to rekindling and enhancing those collaborations.”
