Mike Coiley, Managing Director at First Citizens Bank, brings more than 30 years of financial services experience to his role leading the business side of the Healthcare Asset-Based Lending and Real Estate units. Known for his deep industry expertise and strategic vision, Coiley is widely respected for building and growing successful businesses throughout his career.

Before joining First Citizens nearly 14 years ago, Coiley held senior roles at Siemens Financial Services, where he launched their de-novo ABL platform and later oversaw multiple units, including healthcare ABL, commercial equipment finance, Syndications and Leasing Operations groups. His earlier years at First Union (now Wells Fargo) helped shape his strong foundation in ABL and commercial banking.

“I’ve been fortunate to learn from some incredible mentors,” Coiley says. “Those early experiences — and the people who challenged me — helped shape my leadership style.”

A former President and Chairman of the Secured Finance Network (SFNet), Coiley was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2022. He has contributed to several key initiatives, including SFNet’s first college-level ABL textbook and leading the group that founded the Asset Based Capital Conference, which remains an industry staple.

Coiley leads community efforts like the NYC Walk to End Alzheimer’s, aligning personal values with professional commitments. “Our group finances care for those affected by Alzheimer’s, so it’s meaningful to support the cause beyond the office,”.

Coiley holds a bachelor’s degree in financial management from Clemson University and an MBA in accounting from Seton Hall University. He remains passionate about mentoring future leaders. “Each generation brings something new. My role is to give them the tools and space to succeed.”

Driven by a competitive spirit and commitment to service, Coiley stays focused on innovation. “This industry keeps evolving – the biggest opportunities often lie in solving the problems others avoid,” he says.
