JPMorgan Chase Promotes Ferguson to Vice Chairman of Commercial Banking

in People

JPMorgan Chase promoted Thelma Ferguson, who has served as the Northeast segment head for middle-market banking and specialized industries (MMBSI) for the past 12 years, to vice chairman of commercial banking.

Ferguson has driven MMBSI’s expansion in the Northeast, opening offices, growing client relationships and entering new markets. Ferguson led the build-out of flagship MMBSI regions, including New England, Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic.

Throughout her 24-year tenure, Feguson has been a visible culture carrier and outspoken in her support of JPMorgan Chase’s diversity journey, a champion for talent development and an active member of the Black Executive and Black Leadership Forums and the Women on the Move Executive Committee at the company. Ferguson joined the firm in 1998 as an individual contributor within MMBSI and took on increasing leadership responsibilities over the years, starting with serving as president of the Kentucky, southern Indiana and Tennessee markets.

In her new role, Ferguson will use her connections, knowledge and industry expertise to serve as a trusted advisor to clients and colleagues, focusing on deepening client relationships nationally across commercial banking and continuing to further talent development. She will stay on MMBSI’s executive committee and continue to report to John Simmons, head of MMBSI for JPMorgan Chase, from her base in New York.

In line with Ferguson’s transition, Brian Lamb, who has served for two years as global head of diversity, equity and inclusion at JPMorgan Chase, will become the Northeast segment head for MMBSI. Lamb will also report to Simmons.

During his time serving as the firm’s global head of DE&I, Lamb worked with leaders across the company to establish a global strategy across the company, operating DE&I as a business. Prior to joining JPMorgan Chase, Lamb held leadership roles in commercial banking, retail banking, wealth and asset management and investment advisory at Fifth Third Bank.

To replace Lamb, David Miree joined JPMorgan Chase as its new global head of DE&I.

Miree has 30 years of industry experience, most recently at Wells Fargo, where he was executive vice president and head of consumer and small business diverse customer segments. He has a track record of leading multiple business lines and has developed products and solutions to meet the needs of a diverse range of customers and improve their financial wellbeing. Miree will report to Daniel Pinto, president and chief operating officer of JPMorgan Chase, with accountability to Robin Leopold, head of human resources. He will join the management teams of the consumer and community bank, the corporate and investment bank and human resources. He will be based in New York.
