Grant Thornton Promotes New Leaders for Oklahoma City and Washington D.C.

Grant Thornton, an audit, assurance, tax and advisory services firm, has named Brandon Young as the firm’s new market managing principal in Oklahoma City. In this role, Young will drive Grant Thornton’s growth in Oklahoma City while helping its professionals deliver personalized services to clients across a range of industries.

Young has more than 25 years of professional services experience, including almost 20 years at Grant Thornton in the office he will now lead.

A tax professional by training, he is highly knowledgeable on tax matters specific to high-wealth family groups as well as both public and private companies — with a special background in the retail and technology industries. His clients include C corporations, S corporations and partnerships. Prior to his new role, Young was the private wealth services tax leader in Grant Thornton’s central region.

“Brandon and I have been teammates for nearly 20 years, and time and again, I’ve been impressed by both his constantly-growing knowledge and the way he takes care of the people around him,” Nichole Jordan, the managing principal of the firm’s Texoma region, said. “He sets a powerful example by developing genuine relationships with his teammates and clients, and that inspires our people to follow his lead.”

Young graduated from Oklahoma State University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting and has worked in the state ever since. His work as a private wealth services leader has given him valuable experience in major markets beyond the state, thereby strengthening the services he and his team provide clients.

Outside of work, Young is a board member of Vizavance, a nonprofit organization devoted to preventing blindness. He is also a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants.

“It’s an honor to take on the role spearheading our firm’s growth in Oklahoma City, and I’m especially excited to help lead so many friends and colleagues who’ve been motivating me for years,” Young said. “Because of our team’s talent, wealth of industry knowledge and knack for personalized service, the future of our firm looks brighter than ever here in the Sooner State.”Grant Thornton Promotes New Leader for Washington, D.C.

Grant Thornton also named Bill Marx as the firm’s new market managing principal for the Washington, D.C., area. In this role, Marx will drive growth in the D.C. market while helping local professionals deliver personalized client experiences across all industries.

Marx boasts more than 25 years of professional services experience, including 13 years as a tax principal at Grant Thornton. He has spent decades working alongside finance and tax executives of multinational businesses, providing guidance on everything from tax planning to mergers and acquisitions to cash-flow optimization. From 2015 to 2020, he led Grant Thornton’s Tax Accounting and Risk Advisory practices in the firm’s Atlantic Coast region, which includes Washington, D.C. Additionally, Marx has deep familiarity with the manufacturing, financial services, asset management and life sciences industries.

“Bill has a long track record of providing valuable guidance to public and private companies, and his extensive knowledge will be an asset to our people and clients in the D.C. area,” Jim Wittmer, Grant Thornton’s managing principal for the Atlantic Coast region, said. “He’s the right leader at the right time, particularly as we bring our distinctive, personalized service to publicly-traded and private-sector clients, including many of the nation’s top government contractors.”

Prior to joining Grant Thornton in 2011, Marx held leadership positions at multiple organizations, including a role as the tax director for a multinational, publicly-traded company. He frequently leads classes and panels at events hosted by the Financial Executives Network, the Tax Executives Institute and the American Bar Association.

“Grant Thornton has an incredible team in place in the D.C. region, and we’re providing a level of high-touch service that’s tailored for the broad range of organizations based in our nation’s capital — both inside and outside of the government,” Marx said. “I can’t wait to expand our footprint in this unique community and bolster our peoples’ collective skill set. That’s how we’ll help our clients navigate any challenges they may face.”

Marx earned bachelor’s degrees in education and accounting from Pennsylvania State University. He also holds a master’s degree in taxation from the University of Tulsa.
