in People

Michael Edelschick rejoined BDO Consulting Group’s business restructuring and turnaround services practice as a managing director and national leader of the bankruptcy litigation services group.

Edelschick was previously with BDO for seven years until he was hired in 2019 to lead the post-bankruptcy executive team of a specialty supermarket chain as its CFO and the only C-suite executive. After two years and the turnaround of the supermarket, which now has approximately 300 employees and revenue exceeding $100 million, Edelschick returned to BDO’s New York City office.

Edelschick has nearly 25 years of experience in bankruptcy litigation, restructuring and investment banking advisory services (both within and outside the bankruptcy process), corporate finance and strategic management. He has experience serving clients across multiple industries, including retail, consumer products, automotive, manufacturing, media and entertainment.

Edelschick provides clients with analysis and advice on matters involving preference payments, fraudulent transfers, insolvency and other bankruptcy related litigation. These typically include forensic investigations, data testing and analysis, macroeconomic and industry-specific market research and the application of highly specialized, multi-disciplinary concepts spanning statistics, finance, economics and accounting. He has provided both plaintiffs and defendants with analysis and advice on preference claims and served as an expert witness with testimony experience.

In addition, Edelschick has provided restructuring services for various creditor and debtor constituencies, including the analysis of business plans, cash flow projections, proposed transactions and restructuring plans. He has developed financial models for various purposes, including valuation analysis, liquidity analysis, debt capacity analysis and bottom-up business budgeting and forecasting. Edelschick has conducted interviews with management in performing financial and operational due diligence.

Edelschick is a member of the New York City chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, having previously served on the board of directors. He is a certified turnaround professional (CTP), certified insolvency and restructuring advisor (CIRA) and a certified fraud examiner (CFA).
