Alvarez & Marsal Tax, an affiliate of global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), appointed Adam Uttley as managing director and portfolio tax services group leader in the United States.
Uttley will help align A&M’s PTS offering with the firm’s global transaction tax advisory practice providing a seamless, integrated tax services approach for PE investors, funds and their portfolio companies. His extensive tax planning and reporting services, cross-border planning, restructuring, exit planning, accounting method and incentives and post-acquisition experience will help clients navigate a challenging deal environment and maximize value. Additionally, Uttley has worked on engagements across the life sciences, pharmaceuticals, technology, utilities, oil & gas, gaming, hospitality and consumer products industries.
“Private equity is a key market for us driving considerable growth for both A&M and our Tax practice,” Ernie Perez, global practice leader of A&M Tax, said. “We are constantly seeking ways to diversify and enhance our tax solutions to create additional value for stakeholders across the PE ecosystem while considering the evolving needs of those stakeholders. Our PTS investment broadly speaking and Adam’s appointment specifically, does just that.”
Prior to joining A&M, Uttley served as managing director at Andersen Tax, where he led a commercial services practice in Southern California. Previously, he served at KPMG, where he was a founding member of its accounting methods and credit services practice and a national partner in charge along with designing its digital tax services and knowledge management efforts. Uttley also served as a member of KPMG’s senior lead tax partner group, responsible for developing new partners and leading the Southern California go-to-market effort.
“Addressing investors’, funds’ and portfolio companies’ tax challenges requires the complex technical knowledge and in-depth experience that Adam is known for,” Tyler Horton, managing director and U.S. leader of Alvarez & Marsal’s core tax services, said. “His joining complements and further unifies our PE expertise with our core tax practice. Adam’s broad experience and hands-on approach dovetails with A&M’s operational heritage and enhances our ability to develop sustainable solutions that meet pressing tax concerns.”
“A&M’s transaction tax practice is rooted in strong client relationships and unparalleled tax technical execution,” Adam Benson, managing director and U.S. leader of Alvarez & Marsal’s Global Transaction Tax (GTT) practice said. “Adam’s leadership expands our level of sophisticated tax advisory and furthers our ability to support our private equity clients in creating value and managing risk within their portfolio.”
Uttley earned a bachelor’s degree in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
