Akin added Sarah Milam as a finance partner in New York, focused on asset-based finance (ABF), securitization and structured finance transactions. Milam adds to Akin’s capital solutions platform, bringing deep experience representing sponsors, credit funds, issuers and borrowers in ABF and structured finance transactions.
Milam’s practice focuses on advising credit and other investors, including asset managers, insurance funds and private and alternative lenders, in structuring complex ABF transactions involving the acquisition, financing and divestment of traditional and esoteric assets. She also counsels clients on negotiating and structuring flow purchase arrangements and advises originators and issuers in a wide range of financing and securitization transactions. Her experience covers a broad range of asset classes, including consumer finance, such as auto, unsecured consumer, credit card, point-of-sale, home improvement and solar loans, trade finance, including receivables and supply chain financing, and financial assets such as royalties and other alternative assets.
“Our global capital solutions team continues to see increasing demand for bespoke financing solutions and asset-based finance is playing an important role in this next evolution for private capital investors,” Abid Qureshi, co-chair of Akin, said. “Sarah is a perfect fit for our team, with a significant track record of advising investors in their most sophisticated structured finance transactions.”
“With continued growth in the ABF market, we are pleased to add a top-tier partner in this space,” Ranesh Ramanathan, co-leader of Akin’s global capital solutions team, said. “Our clients are increasingly pursuing structured finance opportunities, and Sarah’s addition further expands our one-stop shop for private capital investors to navigate opportunities across the capital structure.”
“I am delighted to join Akin and its premier capital solutions team,” Milam said. “The firm’s platform for private capital investors is ideal for my ABF and structured finance practice, with tremendous opportunity to work with asset manager, sovereign wealth and other investor clients as they increasingly deploy this strategy.”
Milam joins Akin from Dechert.
