Debevoise & Plimpton LLP announced that Neal J. Reenan and Ian Bushner have joined the firm as partners in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group in New York, expanding its private equity M&A bench.
The hires follow the recent additions of partners Mary Lavelle, Karen Chao, Zahra Sowder and Andrea Hwang. With the addition of Reenan and Bushner, Debevoise has more lawyers recognized by Chambers for Private Equity: Buyouts in New York than any other firm.
Reenan and Bushner advise private equity firms and their portfolio companies on complex domestic and cross-border transactions. Their experience includes buyouts, take-private transactions, carve-outs, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, minority investments, strategic investments and spin-offs across a wide range of industries. Before joining Debevoise, they served as leaders in the private capital practice at another international law firm.
“Neal and Ian are among the most highly regarded private equity lawyers in the market, with deep experience and strong relationships across the sponsor community,” Peter Furci, presiding partner, said. “Their arrival further strengthens our private capital platform and expands the depth of experience we can bring to clients on their most sophisticated transactions.”
“We are seeing ever increasing M&A activity across the private capital spectrum, including on larger and more complex transactions,” Kevin Rinker, co-chair of the M&A Group, said. “Neal and Ian create a strong combination, having worked together for more than a decade representing leading sponsors on these types of deals and bringing exceptional experience and judgment to this work. They further strengthen the team we bring to clients as activity continues to build.”
“Neal and Ian have a long and successful track record serving as trusted advisors to some of the most sophisticated and discerning clients in the private equity space,” Chris Anthony, co-chair of the M&A Group, added. “We could not be more pleased to have them join our already exceptionally strong private capital offering, an area in which the firm has been a leader for almost 50 years.”
“Debevoise has built an exceptional private equity practice, with real depth across M&A, fund formation, finance and related areas,” Reenan said. “Ian and I have worked together for many years, and we saw a compelling opportunity to join a platform that brings those capabilities together to serve clients across their most important matters.”
“Debevoise’s global platform creates significant opportunities to work with clients across markets and geographies and across their businesses,” Bushner said. “We look forward to working with colleagues in New York and around the world to build on the firm’s momentum and continue growing the practice.”
