Gateway Trade Funding Provides $1.5MM in Purchase Order Financing to California Food Importer

The financing helps importer support purchase orders and continued growth with U.S. retailers.

Gateway Trade Funding, a provider of purchase order finance and stretch finance solutions, closed a $1.5 million purchase order finance facility for a California-based food importer that brings food brands from the United Kingdom to retailers across the United States.

The importer first connected with Gateway in August 2026 while seeking a financing solution that could support its continued growth and the unique working capital demands associated with international trade. Approximately one month later, Gateway completed the transaction and provided the financing needed to transition from an existing lender and fund supplier costs associated with customer purchase orders.

As an importer, the company often needs to pay overseas suppliers well before receiving payment from its U.S. retail customers. The new purchase order finance facility provides the company with additional flexibility to fulfill orders, support its relationships with key overseas vendors and continue expanding its business.

“Gateway provided the financing we needed to accelerate our growth and strengthen relationships with our largest overseas vendors,” said the CEO of the food importing company “From the start, their team was knowledgeable, professional and responsive. Our financing needs were uniquely complex, but Mark Polinsky and the Gateway team remained creative, tenacious and solutions-focused at every turn. Their support allows us to focus on what we do best, bringing iconic food brands from around the world to retailers across the country.”

Mark Polinsky, principal at Gateway Trade Funding, added, “Importers can face a significant timing gap between when their suppliers need to be paid and when they ultimately collect from their customers. The company had strong opportunities with major retailers, but they needed a financing structure that could keep pace with those opportunities. We were pleased to work through the complexities of the transaction and put a solution in place that gives them the flexibility to continue growing.”
