McDermott Will & Schulte added Sina Hekmat as a partner in its capital markets group in New York. Hekmat arrives from Hogan Lovells and adds a practice built on the seam between the U.S. and European markets, an increasingly sought-after capability as issuers and underwriters pursue capital across borders. Hekmat’s work spans private equity, debt and equity capital markets, structured finance and M&A.

Hekmat joins at a period of rapid growth for the firm in New York, where it has expanded its footprint substantially over the past decade. His practice gives the firm’s capital markets clients direct access to cross-border expertise in private equity, M&A, financing, tax and regulatory deals.

“Our clients are raising capital across borders, and they want one team that moves with them,” Ira Coleman, chair of McDermott Will & Schulte, said. “Sina knows how deals get done across both U.S. and Europe, and he’s a great fit for how we work: collaborative, ambitious and all-in for our clients.”

Harris Siskind, global head of the transactions practice group, added, “Sina strengthens our ability to serve clients fluently on both sides of the Atlantic, combining deep knowledge of the German and broader European markets with sophisticated U.S. securities law experience to guide complex cross-border transactions. That reach, paired with the depth of our platform, is exactly what issuers and underwriters are looking for right now.”

Hekmat added, “McDermott’s trajectory in private capital is hard to ignore, and the chance to plug a genuinely multijurisdictional practice into it was compelling. Clients are looking beyond any single market, and I’m looking forward to pairing my European and US work with the firm’s strength across capital markets, structured finance and M&A.”

With more than 30 years of experience, Hekmat advises issuers, underwriters and investors on sovereign, investment-grade and high-yield debt offerings, equity offerings, asset-backed securities and private placements, with particular depth in Germany.

Hekmat is ranked in Chambers Global for capital markets and recommended by The Legal 500 US for his debt, equity and global offerings work.
