SSG Capital Advisors
By Violet Synnestvedt

J. Scott Victor, Founding Partner and Managing Director of SSG Capital Advisors, is a leading voice in the restructuring industry, with more than 40 years of experience. He’s completed over 300 transactions across North America and Europe, advising companies facing operational and financial hurdles. Before co-founding SSG in 2001, Victor spent 17 years as a bankruptcy attorney. “I have had a great career — if you do what you love, you will love what you do,” he says.

Victor has built a reputation as a trusted resource for lenders and capital providers, helping middle-market companies navigate refinancing, restructuring and sales. “Acting with integrity — saying what I’d do and then doing it — has always propelled me forward,” he reflects.

Known for his mentorship, Victor fosters a strong internal culture. “Restructuring is a team sport,” he explains. “You can’t be a leader without a team.” He ensures younger professionals at SSG gain real responsibility and industry exposure, with many earning leadership roles in organizations like the Turnaround Management Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.

Victor’s impact extends industry wide. “I helped write the playbook for handling private placements, sales and complex restructurings,” he says. His dedication has earned him a spot in the TMA Turnaround, Restructuring and Distressed Investing Hall of Fame and the M&A Advisor Hall of Fame.

Despite a demanding career, he remains energized. “Even with a grueling schedule, helping clients charges my enthusiasm,” he says. Whether in court, meeting with clients, or enjoying his passion for travel, he always stays connected.

On legacy, he jokes, “I’d like a larger-than-life statue outside our office — but really, I want to be remembered as a problem solver and mentor.”

Victor sees specialty finance growing, fueled by creativity and evolving needs. “As long as there’s an appetite for debt, specialty finance will thrive.”
