Jeff Feinberg, Managing Director and Strategic Portfolio Partner at Star Mountain Capital, has spent over 30 years driving value in complex investment and operational environments. With a background in portfolio management, consulting and C-level leadership, he specializes in optimizing enterprise value across growth and turnaround situations.

Feinberg’s first leadership test came early, managing clothing factories in Alabama and Mississippi. “I was 22, dealing with unions, vendors, lenders and managing working capital,” he says. “It taught me how businesses really run.” Two decades later, he led the global turnaround of SVP Worldwide, the parent of Singer Sewing Machines. “That was my final exam,” he says. “We had revenue, liquidity, supply chain and morale issues — and a bank group that could’ve brought the business down. We turned it around in 18 months without borrowing a dollar.”

He spent 16 years at Alvarez & Marsal, where he co-led the Private Equity Services group, managing and advising portfolio companies in manufacturing, consumer products and industrial sectors. He later became Chief Transformation Officer at Bridgewater Associates, leading strategic planning and procurement efforts.

Feinberg’s leadership philosophy centers on accountability and communication. “Communicate constantly, get out from behind your desk, let the numbers speak, listen first, and own your mistakes,” he says.

He actively mentors young professionals, involving them in meetings and site visits. “I prepare them before and debrief after,” he says. “It’s about learning how to filter what matters.”

At Star Mountain, he sees private credit as a key driver in the middle and lower-middle market. “These are the real growth engines of America,” he says. “We’re investing in people, not just companies.”

He offers one piece of advice to emerging leaders: “Visit the companies. Talk to the teams. That’s where you see what really matters.”
