Ares Management has named Naseem Sagati Aghili as general counsel and secretary and Michael Weiner as head of public policy and legislative affairs.

Sagati Aghili had served as Co-general counsel of Ares since 2019 alongside Weiner. Over the last decade, they have worked closely together, more recently sharing joint responsibility for Ares’ legal activities.

Weiner will remain available through Sagati Aghili’s transition to general counsel, and she will continue to report to Michael McFerran, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Ares.

“Over the last decade, Naseem has proven to be an effective leader and has established high standards for how our firm interacts with all of our stakeholders,” said McFerran. “We look forward to her strong leadership and continued contributions in her new role.”

Sagati Aghili joined Ares in 2009 and is a partner and member of its management committee. She has served in various roles in Ares’ Legal Group, including most recently as Co-general counsel of the firm and general counsel of Ares’ Private Equity Group. Prior to joining Ares, Sagati Aghili was with Proskauer Rose, where she focused on mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and general corporate matters.

Weiner has been with Ares since 2006, having served as general counsel until 2019 and co-general counsel over the last year. He will continue as a partner and member of the firm’s management committee. In his new role he will continue to focus on various strategic initiatives for Ares and will serve as a key point of contact for various stakeholders, particularly related to matters of public policy and legislative affairs, and be available as a senior adviser across the firm.

“We would like to thank Mike for his dedication and leadership throughout his tenure and for his stewardship as General Counsel during that time. We are excited about the next chapter in Mike’s career at Ares and we are confident that Mike will continue to add meaningful value in his new role,” said McFerran.
