Teresa C. Kohl, managing director at SSG Capital Advisors, was presented with The M&A Advisor’s Leadership Award during the 18th Annual Turnaround Awards Gala in West Palm Beach, Fl, on March 19. The award recognizes Kohl’s accomplishments throughout her career and the lasting benefits she has brought to the M&A and corporate restructuring profession. J. Scott Victor and Robert Smith, partners at SSG Capital Advisors, gave remarks and presented Kohl with the award at the gala.

“We are honored to present Teresa Kohl with the 2024 M&A Advisor Leadership Award,” Roger Aguinaldo, founder and CEO of The M&A Advisor. “This year’s Leadership Award honors Teresa’s significant contributions to her organization, her profession, and the restructuring and distressed investment industry as a whole.”

As managing director of SSG Capital Advisors, Kohl is responsible for originating and leading investment banking transactions for the company. She has completed more than 200 restructuring matters, including refinancing and sale transactions for middle-market companies in bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court workouts. Prior to her transition to investment banking, she led financial and operational restructuring engagements for boutique advisory firms.

Kohl is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. She has served on the board of directors of the American Bankruptcy Institute and has served on the executive board and in leadership positions of the Turnaround Management Association, where she was the first woman to lead TMA’s largest global chapter (New York City) as president and co-founded TMA’s Network of Women. She is the immediate past board chair of Living Beyond Breast Cancer, a national non-profit organization that connects people with trusted breast cancer information and a community of support. She is a member of the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors, INSOL International, the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation and The Forum of Executive Women. She serves on the steering committee of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference and as a mentor for the ABI’s diversity and inclusion working group mentoring program.

Kohl will be inducted into The M&A Advisor’s Hall of Fame in November. She previously received The M&A Advisor’s Distressed M&A Dealmaker of the Year Award in 2019 and 2021.
