Squire Patton Boggs added Ranajoy Basu to its London office as partner in the financial services practice group, where he will serve as global head of structured finance and head of the firm’s India practice. He joins from McDermott Will & Emery, where he was head of structured finance and chair of the India practice.

Basu is a highly experienced global finance lawyer, focusing on all types of structured finance arrangements. He is also recognized as a pioneer in impact investment and a leading lawyer for cross-border social impact finance structures, sustainable procurement and supply chain finance.

“We are delighted Ranajoy has joined us. He has an outstanding record of successfully advising leading financial institutions and alternative capital sources on complex, cross-border transactions,” Jim Barresi, global head of the financial services practice group, said. “He is also well-known for ground-breaking work in impact investment. Ranajoy is ideally placed to lead our structured finance work, and he fits seamlessly with some of our new team members who have already increased our ability to add value to clients in specialized practice areas and on a global basis.”

The addition follows a series of recent lateral partner additions to the firm’s financial services practice, including global head private capital and direct lending Gabriel Yomi Dabiri and a corresponding team in New York and Washington DC; global head of financial regulation Monica Gogna and a corresponding team in London and funds specialist Cassandra W. Borchers in the United States.

“We have been working for over a year to update our strategic plan and recruit the right people to help us add more value to clients in key areas on which we are focused,” Barresi said. “We now have momentum and expect to see more focused and thoughtful growth.”

“The geographical reach, the skilled lawyers strengthened further by the recent hires and the strategic vision at Squire Patton Boggs, all point to it being the perfect platform for a market-leading international structured credit and private capital practice,” Basu said. “I look forward to working with Jim, Gabriel, Monica and my colleagues around the world on this exciting opportunity.”

Basu has almost two decades’ experience of advising clients, from global financial institutions, funds and non-bank lenders to private equity firms and corporates, on complex structured finance transactions in multiple jurisdictions. His focus includes private capital, securitization, asset-backed finance (including digital technology and data financing), debt capital markets and debt restructurings.

Basu is also a pioneer in cross-border social impact finance, including social and development impact bonds, renewable energy and “green” structured finance transactions. He has advised governments, NGOs, financial institutions, funds, foundations and charitable institutions around the world on numerous projects.
