A multidisciplinary team from Haynes Boone advised Australian-based private equity firm SKJ Capital in its acquisition of Alamo Beer, a craft brewery in San Antonio, out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The transaction brought together a cross-practice Haynes Boone team advising on mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, real estate, licensing, environmental matters, tax and intellectual property.
The firm’s representation of SKJ Capital was led by M&A partner Kellie Bobo and restructuring partner Ian Peck, featuring key contributions from a multidisciplinary team that included:
- M&A associate Thomas Matteson
- Restructuring associate Jordan Chavez
- Real estate partner Chris Konopka, senior counsel Frank Ruttenberg and associate Mary Claire Cranford
- Intellectual property partner Gavin George and associate Sam Genovese
- Environmental partner Mary Mendoza
- Tax counsel Danielle Marr
“This transaction reflects SKJ Capital’s thoughtful approach to strategic investment,” Peck said. “Navigating a Chapter 11 process, real estate considerations and licensing issues simultaneously required careful coordination, and it was rewarding to help bring their vision to completion.”
Alamo Beer Co. will continue its operations in downtown San Antonio under the new ownership.
“SKJ Capital saw the potential to revitalize a well-known brand in Texas and build on its existing foundation,” Bobo said. “It was a privilege to support their team in making that happen.”
