Laurel Wittman
Portfolio Management and Workouts
Oxford Finance

“Choose your peers well when you are building a finance career. While competition is inevitable, I have always surrounded myself with remarkable people I can collaborate with, learn from at every step and grow alongside.”

Laurel Wittman has built an exceptional career in specialty finance by combining analytical rigor with a human-centric approach to complex situations. After graduating from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, she deliberately bypassed Wall Street to join a boutique investment bank focused on technology mergers, acquisitions and fundraising. This early experience taught her how to transform complex data into compelling narratives that influence critical executive decision-making.

Following the dot-com downturn, Wittman brought her expertise to Oxford Finance as an analyst in life sciences lending. Over the course of two decades, she became a foundational pillar of the platform, managing responsibilities across evaluation, underwriting, negotiation and portfolio monitoring throughout the eastern United States, Canada, Europe and Israel. Recently, she jumped at the chance to transition into a specialized internal role dedicated to managing the most challenging, high-profile situations across the entire portfolio.

Though restructuring and workouts bring inherent stress, Wittman thrives by balancing a firm perspective with deep empathy. Her leadership was recently demonstrated when she managed a public biotechnology firm facing negative clinical trial results. Through structured negotiation, she facilitated an accelerated asset sale process that ultimately preserved value and established a template for future portfolio preservation.

As a self-described introvert in a highly competitive industry, Wittman proves that effective financial leadership does not require loud extroversion. She embraces an authentic approach defined by patience, deep collaboration and consistent execution. Driven by an academic passion for market dynamics and a commitment to continuous professional growth, she continues to elevate her team, executives and borrowers while paving the way for more women to reach senior leadership roles.
