“I wish I had known just how impactful great mentorship can be. Early in my career, I was fortunate to work with a mentor who encouraged me, trusted me with opportunities to grow and ultimately lead.”
Unlike many of today’s finance executives, Jennifer Palmer did not set out to build a career in commercial finance. After graduating from college, she earned her law degree and began practicing as an attorney. Her professional trajectory shifted permanently when she met Gerald Joseph, the legendary founder of Gerber Finance, who recognized her potential and encouraged her to join the firm. That unexpected detour quickly became a highly rewarding 17-year journey, culminating in her appointment as the company’s chief executive officer.
Driven by a desire to build an organization that fully reflected her values and leadership style, Palmer took a bold entrepreneurial leap three years ago to establish JPalmer Collective. Her vision was to build a premier firm centered on collaboration, integrity and outstanding client service. Under her guidance, the company has carved out a unique niche by working to make business financing more equitable, specifically championing women entrepreneurs and executives who have historically faced systemic hurdles when accessing capital. Today, more than half of the firm’s active portfolio comprises women-owned or women-led businesses.
Beyond her corporate accomplishments, Palmer is a prominent and respected voice across the broader specialty finance sector. She has served in major industry leadership roles, most notably as president of the Secured Finance Network (SFNet), and remains passionately committed to mentoring the next generation of finance professionals. By actively cultivating a diverse, highly talented internal team and fostering deep, relationship-driven commercial partnerships, Palmer continues to pave the way for future women leaders, demonstrating that true success in commercial finance lies in lifting others up and creating sustainable pathways for shared, industrywide growth.
