Squire Patton Boggs added Heather E. Rees as a partner in the financial services practice group. Rees is joining the firm’s global platform, with a primary focus in the United Kingson and the United States. Her arrival marks the latest in a series of transatlantic additions to the firm’s financial services practice.
“Heather is an accomplished practitioner with substantial experience handling cross border financing transactions, including for clients facing distress, which aligns perfectly with our strategic expansion efforts across both financial service and restructuring,” Jim Barresi, global head of the firm’s financial services practice group, said. “She is another great addition who will bridge our work between the U.S. and London.”
Jon Mureen, Dallas managing partner, said, “Expanding our transactional practice in Texas is a priority for the firm. As Dallas continues to take root as a leading market for companies in the financial sector, Heather is a very welcomed addition who will play a key role in the expansion of our service offering.”
Rees represents indenture trustees, facility and loan agents and collateral agents based in the U.S. and the UK. She advises on a variety of cross-border financing transactions including private equity sponsor-led financings, high yield debt, leveraged buyouts, syndicated lending transactions, bridge facilities and investment grade bonds, as well as project finance and general banking. She has extensive experience working with overseas counsel and coordinating advice across multiple jurisdictions.
She also has significant experience with highly leveraged and structured transactions involving challenging credits, such as high-yield bonds, and regularly advises clients on distressed financings, workouts, and insolvency-related matters. Rees is admitted to practice in New York and Texas and is also a Registered Foreign Lawyer in England and Wales.
Rees said, “I am thrilled to join Squire Patton Boggs at such a dynamic time for its financial services and restructuring practices. The scale of the firm’s practice, coupled with its collaborative culture, and deep expertise across a range of specialty disciplines were key factors in my decision to become part of the team.”
Ranajoy Basu, head of structured finance, said, “We are absolutely delighted to have Heather join our team. She is a truly multi-dimensional lawyer and fantastic addition to our cross border corporate trust and restructuring practice.”
