Clifford Chance Adds Chung to US Corporate M&A Practice

The global law firm continues its US expansion with the addition of the veteran M&A attorney from White & Case, marking its seventh lateral partner hire in 2025.

Global law firm Clifford Chance has hired partner Robert Chung from White & Case, further expanding its Corporate M&A practice in the US.

Chung brings 25 years of experience advising corporations, boards of directors, special committees, financial sponsors and other stakeholders on a wide range of complex domestic and cross-border M&A transactions.

Chung also regularly represents investment banking firms as financial advisors in M&A transactions. His work extends across industry sectors such as energy, infrastructure, media, technology, healthcare, life sciences, insurance and retail.

This appointment enhances Clifford Chance’s expanding US Corporate M&A practice, bringing the team to 23 partners in New York and Houston.

  • Joins Clifford Chance from White & Case
  • Focuses on advising matters related to mergers and acquisitions
  • Experience spans across industries including entertainment, retail, insurance, energy, technology, healthcare and pharmaceuticals
  • Representative transactions include advising:
    • Iberdrola, S.A. in its US$2.551 billion acquisition of 100% of Avangrid, Inc.
    • NRG Energy, Inc. in its US$2.8 billion acquisition of Vivint Smart Home, Inc.
    • Macquarie Infrastructure Corp. and its related entities in the sale of three businesses, including the US$4.475 billion sale of its Atlantic Aviation business to KKR and the US$514 million sale of the MIC Hawaii businesses to Argo Infrastructure Partners
    • Brookfield Infrastructure Partners in its bid to acquire Inter Pipeline Ltd., a Canadian company publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange, for an implied value of CAD$13.5 billion
    • Golden Nugget Online Gaming, Inc. and the Special Committee of its Board of Directors in the US$1.56 billion acquisition of GNOG by DraftKings Inc.
  • Earned BA from Brown University (1997), JD from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law (2000)
  • Admitted as Attorney-at-Law in New York (2009); Washington, DC (2009); California (2000)
