“I wish I’d known earlier the importance of venturing outside my comfort zone and learning from mistakes instead of dwelling on them. Growth comes from new challenges and taking them on builds confidence. I instill that mindset when mentoring others.”

Juliana Obregon’s distinguished career in leveraged finance is defined by her holistic view of capital structures, cross- border versatility and deep dedication to mentorship. She began her legal journey at an international law firm, focusing primarily on capital markets across Latin America and Europe. Seeking a broader scope, Obregon joined Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP, where she intentionally branched beyond traditional specialties to master a dynamic range of debt instruments, from bonds and cash flow deals to asset-based lending (ABL).

Today, as a partner at the firm, Obregon excels at the intersection of complex restructurings, liability management and cross-border collateral structures. What sets her apart is her bird’s-eye view of the entire capital structure. Because her deep expertise spans multiple financial products, she provides highly practical, strategic advice to clients navigating uncharted territory. Her multilingual abilities — she is fluent in Spanish and French and conversational in Portuguese and Italian— along with her early training in a civil law system allow her to seamlessly bridge communication and cultural gaps in high-stakes multinational transactions. Notably, she spearheaded the complex ABL negotiations on the DexKo restructuring across multiple global jurisdictions and drafted unprecedented eligibility criteria for healthcare receivables.

For Obregon, professional success is closely tied to lifting others up. Recognizing that ABL can be intimidating for beginners, she is a passionate mentor, leading workshops through the Cahill Academy to build confidence among rising attorneys. Having balanced her demanding practice with the responsibilities of motherhood, she brings intentional focus and resilience to her leadership. She encourages young lawyers to say “yes” to hard things, believing that true professional growth and deep confidence occur only when venturing outside one’s comfort zone.
