Amy Bautista’s career in specialty finance highlights how vision, resilience and creative innovation transform complex market challenges into pioneering financial products. She began her career as a financial adviser in Boston before advancing to a buy- side analyst role, where she covered large-cap portfolio sectors and co-managed a mid-cap fund. Seeking broader entrepreneurial impact, she joined her family’s financial services firm in Seattle in 2008 — just as the collapse of Washington Mutual forced the firm to completely reinvent its core business model.
Faced with severe market disruption, Bautista spent four years designing, pitching and refining a novel solution: Kosmos’ patented Paired Policy Strategy. After winning the firm’s first institutional client in 2012, she initially focused investor cultivation on pensions and endowments. Recognizing that insurance capital was uniquely suited to the strategy, Bautista embraced the challenge of entering the asset-backed securities (ABS) market without prior ABS experience. Partnering with leading institutional firms, she co-created the first Paired Policy ABS and executed Kosmos’ inaugural transaction in 2019.
Today, as chief executive officer and chief investment officer, Bautista has elevated Kosmos Management into a programmatic issuer overseeing more than $2 billion in assets.
