Joseph Herzog is a rising leader in specialty finance. He was initially drawn to the industry for its pace, complexity and the opportunity to work on transactions with real business impact. Today, as senior vice president and head of Asset-Based Lending at Rockland Trust, Herzog sees his role as long-term partner in a business he views as fundamentally relationship-driven, where consistency and long-term engagement matter as much as closing a deal. “Success isn’t driven by execution alone,” Herzog explains, “but by the ability to stay engaged with clients and prospects over the long term.”
That view shaped how he approached the past year. In a market defined by uncertainty, there was less focus on any single transaction, and more on staying close to clients. Herzog and his team prioritized active engagement and being a trusted and present resource to clients, helping them navigate changing geopolitical and economic landscapes.
This same mindset has guided his professional growth. Herzog credits much of his development to the simple but powerful idea of being “present.” Early on, that meant proximity — sitting in on negotiations and learning through exposure. Today, it means being engaged, responsive and intentional in building relationships. In his leadership role, he prioritizes creating the same opportunities for his team. “Being present isn’t just about being in person,” Herzog says. “It’s about active engagement and making the effort to build something durable.”
For Herzog, that combination — technical execution, consistent presence and long-term engagement — is what positions him as a driving force in the industry’s future.
