Paula Currie, Senior Vice President and Director of Internal Controls at PNC Business Credit, has significantly influenced the specialty finance industry through a career defined by dedication, innovation and advocacy. With over 26 years at PNC, Currie has advanced through from Field Examiner to Regional Underwriting Manager to her current role, where she oversees Field Examination, Operations and the Development Program.

Currie is known for turning obstacles into opportunities. Early in her career, often the only woman in the room, she strategically built a reputation grounded in technical expertise and strategic insight. Her ability to reframe gender-based challenges into leadership opportunities has helped reshape perceptions in the industry.

Currie is active in professional organizations including the Turnaround Management Association and the National Association of Credit Management, contributing to the advancement of industry standards.

As the Executive Sponsor for PNC Business Credit’s Development Program, Currie has directly influenced the career trajectories of emerging talent, transforming uncertain newcomers into confident, capable professionals.

Her achievements have been recognized through the Chairman’s Circle Award and inclusion in PNC’s Dynamic Leadership and Executive Women’s Development programs — affirming her influence as a champion for women in finance.

A career highlight came when she chaired the Secured Finance Network’s Women in Secured Finance Committee from 2020 to 2021, where she advanced education, advocacy, and networking initiatives. She has judged the SFNet “40 Under 40 Awards” and was named one of the “Top Women in Commercial Finance” in 2019.

Beyond her day-to-day role, Currie is a strong advocate for policies that support sustainable careers for women, including inclusive parental leave. Through initiatives like Women Connect and PNC’s women’s advancement programs, she continues to elevate others.

Currie’s advice to women aspiring toward roles of influence is simple: speak up, own your accomplishments, and never be afraid to advocate for yourself.
