Paul Spivack joined SMBC Nikko Securities America, a member of SMBC Group, as managing director and deputy head of capital markets. In this role, Spivack will work with the firm’s debt business, providing advice and counsel to help drive further growth for the unit. He will report to Scott Ashby, managing director, head of capital markets and investment banking and senior deputy president for SMBC Nikko Securities America.

“We are very pleased to welcome Paul to the firm as a senior leader of our capital markets business,” Ashby said. “His strong and diverse background in various asset classes through a global lens and perspective will add significant value to our mix of clients. We are confident that Paul will help support the sustained growth of this business, will be an integral member of our expanding team and will help to enhance the execution of our strategy and delivery for corporate clients.”

Spivack joined SMBC Nikko Securities America from Morgan Stanley, where he spent the past 17 years, most recently as a managing director, joint head of fixed income capital markets (FICM) in the Americas and head of debt capital markets in Latin America, a role he served in since 2018. He also served as managing director, global head of FICM syndicate and as a member of the global capital markets operating committee at Morgan Stanley. In these roles, Spivack jointly managed a group of more than 100 professionals across the U.S., Latin America, Europe and Asia. These teams were responsible for the origination and execution of debt securities, loans (including acquisition finance), derivatives, liability management and securitization.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 2004, Spivack served in various positions with Hawk Global Advisors, Bank of America Securities, Bear Stearns, Credit Suisse First Boston, UBS, Coudert Brothers and the office of Ralph K. Winter.
