Alvarez & Marsal Adds Bergin as Managing Director

byIan Koplin

in People

Alvarez & Marsal appointed Dr. Richard Bergin a managing director within its disputes and investigations practice and as North America co-leader of the firm’s economic consulting team.

With more than 20 years of experience testifying on economic damages, loss causation and valuation, Bergin specializes in antitrust, structured finance, international arbitration and securities cases. He has testified numerous times as an expert witness in trial, arbitration, international arbitration and before government agencies. He has also been admitted as an economic expert in various federal and state courts, the International Chamber of Commerce, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, the American Arbitration Association and various arbitrations around the world.

Bergin has advised clients in a variety of industries, including energy, pharmaceuticals, software, electronics, chemical and financial services. He has assisted clients with allegations of monopolization, collusion, theft of intellectual property, fraud and market manipulation.

Throughout his career, Bergin has addressed a range of issues, including forensic financial and economic analysis, market power, structured finance, economic damages and valuation of investments in various asset classes, including firms, equities, commodities, derivatives and structured products, including asset-backed securities and collateralized debt obligations.

“Navigating the current geopolitical landscape has become more difficult for companies and investors,” Jerry Dent, managing director and North American practice leader of Alvarez & Marsal’s disputes and investigations practice, said. “Increased regulatory scrutiny across regions and industries only adds to this complexity. Richard’s in-depth economic knowledge, coupled with his range of industry sector experience, furthers our ability to maximize value for clients.”

Bergin most recently served as a managing director with AlixPartners’ economic practice. Prior to that, he served as a principal for KPMG and as a managing director for FTI Consulting.
