Alvarez & Marsal Appoints Chhatwal Managing Director in FTS Group

Alvarez & Marsal appointed Rishi Chhatwal managing director within the forensic technology services (FTS) group of its disputes and investigations (DI) practice. Chhatwal’s focus on regulatory risk, M&A discovery and information management and fintech investigations augments the firm’s ability to solve for clients’ global e-discovery and information governance concerns.

Over the course of his in-house and outside counsel legal career, Chhatwal has managed evidence and document intelligence in contentious legal and regulatory situations alongside increasing corporate transparency demands. He has counseled Fortune 100 clients on privacy, technology infrastructure, mobile devices policies and litigation discovery issues. Additionally, Chhatwal has expertise in policies and procedures for global data governance and government response.

“Rishi’s hire represents the latest step in DI’s strategic commitment to expand the firm’s forensic technology offering,” Jerry Dent, managing director and North America practice leader of A&M’s disputes and investigations practice, said. “His background aligns with A&M’s operational heritage and results-driven mindset. His expertise augments our ability to address evolving market needs against the backdrop of regulatory change and economic disruption.”

Prior to joining A&M, Chhatwal was director and associate general counsel of e-discovery and information governance at Coinbase. While there, he led the e-discovery team and strengthened policies and procedures in an evolving regulatory environment. Before that, Chhatwal served as assistant vice president and senior legal counsel for enterprise discovery and legal operations at AT&T Services. He began his career as an associate at Sidley Austin in the telecommunications regulatory and intellectual property litigation practice groups.

In his previous positions, Chhatwal built a legal operations center of expertise and led legal transformation, M&A second requests, domestic and global e-discovery data privacy, information governance and data remediation. He was also part of the legal team that successfully defended the first vertical merger challenge by the Department of Justice in more than 40 years.

“Rishi expands the firm’s forensic technology capabilities beyond our core offering into legal operations. His in-house legal e-discovery and information governance roots provide clients with a unique perspective for navigating data driven disputes and investigations along with building operations to gain greater control over and insights from their data,” Jonathan Marshall, managing director and North America forensic technology services leader at A&M, said.
