Global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal’s (A&M) health industry group appointed John Coyle as a managing director in the group’s health systems practice. Coyle’s hire builds upon recent joiners, managing director Brian Giessler and senior director Mark Sugrue.

Coyle works with clients across multidisciplinary teams on redefining customer experiences, rethinking core processes and reimagining how to create profitable growth through AI business platforms. He specializes in leading teams from strategy through outcomes with a focus on creating and executing digital strategies that maximize value and drive change.

“John augments our team’s health system expertise in the digital space. His track record of leading technology-enabled business transformations provides our hospital and health systems clients with a competitive edge amidst economic turbulence and regulatory change,” Martin McGahan, managing director and head of A&M’s healthcare industry group, said. “John’s ability to drive effective change by leveraging strategy, operations and data, syncs with A&M’s results-driven mindset to maximize value for clients.”

Coyle’s notable engagements include:

  • Leading the digital strategy and implementation for a world-class cancer care and research hospital, where he served as acting chief digital officer.

  • Directing the merger integration as acting chief information officer of two U.S. health services companies, resulting in the sector’s largest company with the highest valuation

  • Developing a multi-billion-dollar cost take-out strategy for one of the largest faith-based health systems

  • Spearheading the cost transformation program for one of the largest public hospital systems to address a $2 billion annual revenue shortfall

Prior to joining A&M, Coyle led digital strategy and transformation in healthcare payer-providers for Boston Consulting Group as a managing director and partner. Previously, he led the strategic IT and operations practice for Oliver Wyman Healthcare. He first served with Accenture in a variety of roles, culminating as that firm’s the North American practice leader for IT strategy and transformation in healthcare and public sector.

“John’s knowledge of the multidimensional healthcare landscape is rooted in his industry expertise,” Chris George, managing director and head of the health systems practice, said. “His experience provides clients with new insights and solutions in alignment with A&M’s operating heritage and integrated platform. As hospitals and health systems face the increasing challenges of balancing revenue growth, navigating cost pressures and managing evolving digital demands, John’s perspective will help them chart new pathways for growth.”

Coyle earned a bachelor’s degree with distinction in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He also completed an advanced business management program at the Kellogg School of Management.
